Golf in County Antrim

Overview

A golfer's guide to Antrim

County Antrim is the home of Royal Portrush — host of the 2019 and 2025 Open Championships and, in Dunluce, one of the most thrilling closing stretches in golf. Portstewart sits a short drive west with three loops of links across enormous dunes, and the Causeway Coast adds Giant's Causeway, Bushmills distillery and Dunluce Castle on the same day's drive. Pair Antrim with Down for a long weekend on Northern Ireland's coast — easily the strongest 72-hole stretch in the British Isles.
When to play

Best time to visit Antrim

May to September. Royal Portrush visitor tee times sell out 12 months in advance for prime summer slots; plan early. Northern Ireland summers are cooler than the south — bring warm layers even in August.
