Golf in County Galway

Overview

A golfer's guide to Galway

Galway is Ireland's creative capital and a perfect base for a Wild Atlantic Way golf trip. Connemara Championship Links — out on the rocky moonscape of the Connemara peninsula — is one of the most dramatic links in the country, while Galway Bay Golf Resort offers a more polished parkland experience minutes from the city. The combination of links golf, Galway's pub and music scene, and Connemara's landscapes makes this a strong shoulder trip on a longer Clare-Galway-Sligo loop. Most trips base in Galway city and day-trip out to Connemara (90 minutes each way).
When to play

Best time to visit Galway

May–September is best. Connemara catches Atlantic weather hard, so build a flex day into longer trips. Galway is at its liveliest during summer festival season (June–July), which is fun off-course but means hotel rates jump.
